‘We Can’t Sit On The Fence , While Zimbabwe Burns’- Analyst

A political commentator Simbarashe Manhanga‎ has concurred with MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s remarks that citizens can not sit on the fence while the country is burning due to crumbling economy caused by President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF ‘s rule.

“Tsvangirai was at a rally in Gutu (Dewure) recently and was quoted as having said “We cannot afford to wait for 2018 when the country is deteriorating economically like this. We need to take action and pressurise Mugabe and his Zanu PF to come to his right state of mind and improve the situation in the country, otherwise we all perish of poverty,”.

“l totally agree with him 100%. We cannot continue sitting on the side lines whilst the country burns,” he said. “Civil servants are yet to be paid and yet the chief architect of our demise has flown to the east with his family for holiday. Among the suffering and everything, Mugabe thinks his holidays are more important than the health of the country. He will spend hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars with only his family whilst millions of his countrymen are hungry and disillusioned.”

He said this money, which is not there for civil servants salaries by the way, would surely have been put to better use.

“That is what a president by the people and for the people would have done. We are surely in need of a Magufuli in our politics,” Manhanga said. “Why not promote the “buy Zimbabwe” Campaign and go to Victoria Falls or Nyanga or Kariba fir their holidays? If our leaders drive German made cars and go to the east for holiday, who do they expect to “buy Zimbabwe?”

He said by the way, lt will be remiss of him not to point out that Tsvangirai said he will not use violence to dislodge the autocrat but will use dialogue.

“A very gentlemanly thing to do l must say. My question would be, when has dialogue ever worked since 1999 when MDC was formed? ls this not the time to try new forms of pressure on the govt?” he said. “New forms of pressure to bear on the regime but within the law? I think the time is now and people are waiting to be led by one with courage and willpower to force the regime to take people seriously. I have been known to be wrong though.”Source: Byo24News
